Weapons of Mass Deconstruction
Presented by SUBSECTOR LTD // Curated by Inanna Gallery
July 4th, 2026 marks the 250th year since the founding of the nation called the United States of America. To commemorate this momentous occasion, a group of American girls/artists/poets/anthropologists/dancers/filmmakers/vessels/voyeurs/extraordinaires will embark on a pilgrimage north and pay homage to one of our founding cities as part of Inanna Gallery’s first residency.
This traveling circus is led by Katya Austin, the founder of Inanna Gallery; an ancient//future research laboratory attempting to find a cure for the void. Established circa 2026 in the Lower East Side on Eldridge St, Inanna Gallery was born from years of readings and performances and art and parties that were begging for four walls and a roof to call its body.
After 3 shows (Anatomy of a Soul Machine & Life, Death, Life & Echo) the organs are ready to voyage from the center of the universe (New York City) to the birthplace of abolitionism, the women’s suffrage movement, and amateur photography (Rochester) to find a new body in SUBSECTOR, a fine art and furniture showroom located at 173 State St.
Thanks to the generosity of Matthew Tully Dugan, each of the artists in the residency has been afforded an opportunity to create work that explores the relationship between nature and civilization under the context of a political environment that is without a doubt undergoing a massive change. Whether this is a violent end to everything we’ve ever known, the beginning of a beautiful future, both, or neither, one thing is for certain: Chambit, Cushla Clark, Brandi Divine, Katya Austin, and Emi are Weapons of Mass Deconstruction.
The residency will proceed in two phases.
Phase 1: Initiation: DOWNLOAD//UPLOAD June 20-24, 2026
A solo performance by Katya, 3 days of meditative silence in Rochester, live-streamed. 1 day of uninterrupted writing, also live-streamed and digitally accessible. A commentary on the attention economy, and an invitation for the audience to recharge their most valuable resource. A probe into what happens when one opens themselves up as a pure vessel.
Phase 2: Integration: WEAPONS FORMED June 27-July 2, 2026
The group comes to Rochester and embarks on their exploration and creation.
Join us for the opening of WMD on Friday July 3rd at SUBSECTOR 173 State St from 6-9pm during Rochester’s monthly First Fridays celebration.
