Inanna Gallery Announces Inaugural Exhibition “Life, Death, Life” on Manhattan’s Lower East Side
New York, NY - A new voice in contemporary art arrives on Manhattan’s Lower East Side with the opening of Inanna Gallery, home to the rising class of New York’s underground. A gathering space for the Avant-Garde and the institutional, the traditional and the technological. A physical threshold holding the frontline against the younger generation’s complete dissolution into the digital realm. A space that celebrates the act of gathering as much as the act of art making.
Founded and curated by Katya Austin, the gallery will debut with its inaugural exhibition Life, Death, Life, opening on April 9, 2026 and remaining on view through April 24, 2026.
Positioned at the crossroads of myth, embodiment, and resurrection, “Life, Death, Life” examines cycles of creation and dissolution, honoring the cyclical nature of reality, specifically from the feminine perspective. The title is borrowed from Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ book Women Who Run With Wolves, which emphasizes this reality as essential for the “Wild Woman,” the woman who is able to live in dialogue with her intuition and have full access to her life-force. The narrative of this exhibition is tied to the myth of Inanna, the goddess whose namesake is the inspiration for the gallery. Her story is ancient; she is the goddess of love and war, the Queen of the Heavens and Earth, a voyager into the underworld. Her story is one of complexities and contradictions, a true Heroine’s Journey. The exhibition brings together a dynamic group of female artists whose works engage with themes of identity, devotion, and the internal landscape of the self.
As the founding curator of Inanna Gallery, Austin builds on a curatorial vision shaped by her poetry and writing. Each exhibition is an embodiment of her personal inquiries into the tension between nature and civilization, the ancient and the future, femininity and masculinity. Her recent exhibition, Anatomy of a Soul Machine, investigated the relationship between technology, consciousness, and the body. Each artist’s piece in the group show was chosen or created as a response to Austin’s writings. Her writing practice has developed in conjunction with the Sunday Salon, a nomadic, hidden in plain sight poetry, music, and performance event that has garnered a cult following over the past several years which Austin is primarily known for. Her emphasis on the importance of in person gatherings and cultural exchanges between the artistic and technologically oriented realms of New York are at the core of her curatorial choices.
With Inanna Gallery, Austin elevates these inquiries and projects into a permanent space, one that invites both artists and audiences to come into the present moment and expand their horizons.
Located in the heart of the Lower East Side, Inanna Gallery enters New York’s vibrant cultural landscape with a mission to champion emerging and mid-career artists whose work comes from a place of pure expression, as well as introduce a new class of collectors to the beauty of patronage. The gallery’s programming emphasizes interdisciplinary practices, experimental formats, and work that engages deeply with contemporary existential questions.
